Vom Dortmunder German Shepherds

We are a small German Shepherd kennel in the high Rocky mountains of Colorado run by Linda and Lesley Smith. We breed West German Showlines who come from top German bloodlines. “Vom Dortmunder” means “from/ Of Dortmund“. This is the area in Germany from which our dog’s lineage originates and we still have strong ties with. West German showline dogs are bred for competition in the show ring, but also must have working titles, like Schutzhund training. Our Dogs make wonderful family companions, which is why we’ve chosen to exclusively breed this wonderful showline over 25 years. We strive as a breeders to produce healthy, sound minded, and structurally correct dogs, while maintaining AKC and German Shepherd breed standards to provide healthy outcomes. We also have chosen to focus on a red and black coat color in our breeding program, while this has no effect on temperament or health, we feel this vibrant color showing is a great acknowledgement of a strong breed. We’ve never breed for profit. Each pairing is a labor of love, with dedicated study to be sure these dogs are the right ones to forward the breed’s progress.
